United Record Pressing Offering Bio-Vinyl Options

URP Introduces Bio-Vinyl: A Sustainable Alternative to Traditional Vinyl

Nashville, TN, March 6, 2025  – United Record Pressing (URP), a global leader in vinyl manufacturing, has announced the availability of Bio-Vinyl, an innovative new material that replaces a large portion of fossil-based components with renewable resources, such as recycled cooking oils and plant residues.

Bio-Vinyl results in a 90% reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional vinyl compounds. Additionally, Bio-Vinyl has earned certification from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), an international standard that ensures stringent sustainability requirements across production processes.

Designed with longevity and lifecycle responsibility, Bio-Vinyl is 100% recyclable and requires 47% less oil content than conventional vinyl materials. Its durability is also noteworthy, with a lifespan of up to 75 years, matching the expectations of traditional vinyl products.

“This launch allows us to introduce a more sustainable material into vinyl production without compromising the quality that artists, labels, and collectors rely on,” said Cam Sarrett, URP’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “By incorporating Bio-Vinyl into our pressing offerings, we can take meaningful action to improve the environmental footprint of the music industry while maintaining the integrity of vinyl records.”

The adoption of Bio-Vinyl is expected to have substantial implications for the vinyl record market. By reducing reliance on petroleum-based materials and incorporating recyclability into the production cycle, this offering supports a more environmentally conscious approach to record pressing.

URP’s decision to adopt a sustainable alternative reflects a broader shift toward responsibility and innovation for the music industry. This move creates an opportunity for artists and record labels to align their creative output with sustainability goals, potentially influencing how their physical media is produced.

While Bio-Vinyl offers an alternative to current production practices, URP acknowledges that the path to full sustainability requires a broader industry effort. This adoption is one step in a more significant company-wide commitment to reducing environmental harm while preserving the widespread appeal and future viability of vinyl records.
